This year the Girls Action FoundationNational Day of Action took place on March 8th, to commemorate the 100th International Women’s Day and as the official launch of the exciting Girls Action Foundation’s LIGHT A SPARK campaign. Almost 40 community actions took place across the country, including the launch of YWCA Muskoka’s zines about cosmetics. This year, Breast Cancer Action Montreal (BCAM) and FemmeToxic offered bursaries as a part of the Girls Action Foundation’s Day of Action for projects that address safe cosmetics and environmental health through media arts.
So my last blog entry reviewed my first session with the girls. After that, I sat down and went over everything I did, what worked well, what didn't and what I should do about it.
The chemicals in our cosmetics really are a phantom menace! Byproducts aren't on the labels (hello formaldehyde), fragrances are "trade secrets" and greenwashing is everywhere!
I am so excited to be blogging to the FemmeToxic community! My name is Katie and I'm a Youth Eco-Intern with the YWCA heading up the "Women & the Environment" project which is looking at environmental impacts on women's health.
